Against a backdrop of unprecedent crisis and ecological transition, Europe is seeking energy independence and is faced with the absolute necessity of decarbonizing its energy mix and its uses. Using hydrogen as an energy vector seems to be the key to our transition.
However, 95% of hydrogen consumed in Europe comes from the steam reforming of hydrocarbons and coal which, for 1t of hydrogen produced, releases 10 to 12t of carbon dioxide which, in most cases, is not valued and thus contributes significantly to global warming.
In this context, low-carbon hydrogen is emerging as a solution for the future and is becoming a major opportunity to decarbonize heavy sectors such as industry and transport. However, there are still many challenges to be met (low yields, intermittent production, energy requirements).
By integrating it into the low-carbon mix, natural hydrogen can make a significant contribution. Indeed, produced naturally by the planet, its use requires no water, no critical materials and no human energy, making it possible to envisage the non-intermittent production of low-carbon hydrogen that is competitive (ultimately <$1/kg) with other current production methods.
Convinced that natural hydrogen has a place in Europe’s energy mix, 45-8 ENERGY is dedicated to the exploration and production of natural hydrogen in order to provide a low-carbon solution that is essential to the ecological and energy transition.
Thanks to a pioneer geological approach and innovative proprietary technologies, 45-8 ENERGY has already three natural hydrogen exploration projects in Europe.
